You dig deep to erase the names, the stares, the smirks, the trauma from your past.  It may have been the actions of a classmate, a teacher, a parent, or another family member whose scars still seem to never fade from your present view.

Painful words, words of doubt and discouragement… can haunt us for years.  It is no coincidence that we read Paul’s words with hope as we live in a world filled with faces of a painful past.  It is way time to look to the future, putting those pains and hurts into the hands of Jesus, and simply press on toward the goal…

Philippians 3: 13-14  Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

All to often, we are surrounded by those who have seemingly skipped over this passage of verses that blanket their bible.  It hurts to see those living in sorrow and despair in spite of anothers actions or words of discouragement.  It may even be a circumstance, a tragedy that has left you feeling like there is no way you can possibly “really” be happy ever again.

We must. We owe it to ourselves to find this place of peace and lay aside the hurt, the pain…. the bitterness, the shame of the past.  We owe it to others, to God to give them our best foot forward in complete freedom and serenity.  Without doing so, we cannot fully give ourselves… there will still be a grip holding on to what stumbles you each day, each moment.

Write it down, tell a confidante, pray and give it to Jesus.. He will take it, wash it, and make you anew… Thank Him for His complete forgiveness… forgetting what lies behind and pressing on toward the goal…
